| A
scenic wonder, British Columbia borders the Pacific Ocean on
Canadas west coast. This is one of our country's wildest
and most beautiful provinces, with incredible natural diversity.
From the sub-tropical rain forests of the coast, to the glaciated
peaks of the Rocky Mountains or the desert like areas of the
interior, BC has it all. |
 |
|
| |
| The lower mainland and southern regions of Vancouver
Island enjoy some of the mildest weather in the country, unlike
most of Canada's which experiences the dramatic seasonal changes
that are so typical of our country. All of this adds up to a
recreational playground with a myriad of possibilities for the
outdoor enthusiast. |

| Sea
kayakers visiting BC will be in heaven
with areas like the Broken Group on
Vancouver Islands western shores and the
marine trail of the inside passage or the
magical shores of Gwaii Haanas National
Park. |

|
|
|
There
are never ending routes and variations.
Novices are strongly advised to acquire
the services of a guide but seasoned
kayakers, with ocean experience, can make
their own way in many areas. |
|
 |
| Backpackers
and hikers can explore for years, never once
retracing their steps. Day hikes are everywhere
with easy access and awesome variety. |
| |
| Backpackers
will be pleased with the excellent trails including
the Juan de Fuca Marine trail and the world famous
West Coast Tail. If you're looking for alpine, pay
a visit to either Glacier, Kooteney, Mount Revelstoke
or Yoho National parks. Of course you havent
even scratched the surface yet, since BC has almost
five hundred provincial parks to explore. |

If
canoe camping is your thing, you might want to check out the
Sayward Forest canoe route on the Island, or the Powell River
route along the sunshine coast. Of course, in the provinces
interior, you have the Bowron Lakes circuit which is world famous,
a must for serious canoeists. White water enthusiasts can choose
to kayak or raft the Chilliwack, Elaho, Squamish or Cheakumus
rivers, just to name a few. |
|
| Whitewater
can be found everywhere in the province with an
abundance of reliable rivers with consistent
water flows. |

| BC
Mountain bikers are probably the luckiest group of all. Dont
even try to count the number of trails, just start riding. From
the wacky rides of the north shore, to the free riding outside
Kamloops there is something for every type of rider in this
province. |

| Whistler
village and its massive mountain
backdrop |
|
|
| |
| For
an extended ride and some great vistas, try the
Sea-to-Sky trail along the coast. If you're
looking for variation, pay a visit to Whistler, which has trails for all skill levels
as well as great places to kick back after you're
done. In
the winter, you wont have to go far to find
great track set skiing. On the coast,
theres Whistler and Cypress Bowl, in
the interior try Kane Valley or further east you
have great trails in Yoho National Park. If
you're looking for something a little wilder, try
your hand at ski touring in Garibaldi Provincial
Park just outside Squamish or further north along
the Pemberton Ice Cap. These are only a few of
many areas that attract backcountry and telemark
skiers from all over the world.
