Banff is well known for its spectacular backcountry skiing, but there are significant dangers involved with this growing sports. Exercise caution and get trained in safety techniques such as avalanche rescue, route assessment and snow conditions. Ensure your equipment is adequete and know how to use it. Always check with the park or the Canadian Avalanche Association about current conditions. If in doubt the best thing to do is hire a local guide. Here are a couple of the touring routes: Visit our

Backcountry/Telemark Locales in the Canadian Rockies

| Telemark skiing can be done at the three downhill ski areas in the park, Mount Norquay, Sunshine Village, and Lake Louise. You can also find steep slopes while on a ski touring trip in the backcountry. (Check the avalanche hazard rating beforehand.) | ||||
