Eastern Ontario - Ottawa always had some interesting restaurants, after all it is the countries capital and it's strongly influenced by the two cultures. Having a Cordon Bleu school of cooking certainly doesn't hurt but if there was one significant event that said the food scene has truly arrived it was the opening of Beckta. For fine dining, service and an excellent wine celler, Beckta has established itself as Ottawas' best.

Of course it doesn't stop there, have a look at the offerings at the l'Orée du Bois in nearby Gatineau, or the Baccara at the casino or for something really unique how about Kinki or the E18hteen.

If you're in the market area head for the Luxe or the Blue Cactus or one of our favourites the Bistro115. Looking for something quick or simple, how about a bagel from Kettleman's or a shawarma from the Maroush. For those who can handle it you can always partake in one of those two twisted cultural icons a beaver tail or a poutine, but make sure it's one or the other, since no one has ever survived consuming both at the same sitting.

Touring the area take in a great breakfast at Carol's in Hawkesbury, then a home cooked lunch at the McIntosh Inn in Morrisburg, a pint at the Toucan Irish Pub in Kingston then dinner at the Hungary Planet in Perth before heading back for a welcome sleep in Ottawa.

Once upon a time Canadian wines were suitable for cooking - period!. Now with our wineries bringing back gold medals from France, we can bring the bottles out of the kitchen with pride. Wineries are springing up all over the country, inspired by the success of our early pioneers in this area. Ontario's Niagara Peninsula is leading the way and encouraging other regions to follow - with great sucesss, we may add. Take the opportunity to visit one of the wineries, which offer tasting tours and often have wine bars and restaurants, we're sure you'll be impressed. Take note that some of the wineries also have accommodations, ranging from simple B&Bs to rooms in luxurious estates. Make a point of calling ahead for all of the details to avoid disappointment.
