Montreal's restaurants are amongst the finest in the world, providing every imaginable type of cuisine, in the widest variety of settings. From the exquisite plates of Les Halle, to the spicy selections of Le Piment Rouge, fine cuisine abounds in this city. Bargains are also available to the savvy diner, drop in to the small Tokenize soup shops on "The Main" or take advantage of the excellent Pushap vegetarian Indian restaurants in the city. Of course it doesn't stop there, sample Montreal's famous smoke meat at Schwartzs, pick up some bagels from the Fairmont Bagel Factory or take home a fresh, French baguette from the Premiere Moisson Bakery. While you're here, make a point of sampling from some of the provinces wide variety of exquisite locally produced cheese, accompanied by one of Quebec's excellent wines. Of course, we would be remise, if we didn't remind you to pick up some of Quebec's "real" maple syrup to take back with you.

Quebec keeps winning awards for its fine cheeses, most produced by single farms and small cheese factories from cow, sheep and goats milk. Trust us on this one, Quebec cheeses are nothing like what you'll find in your local supermarket dairy section, each variety is a labour of love and the results are exquisite. The wide variation of flavour, texture and appearance, make them a great addition to any picnic, dinner or party. You can visit some of the Fromageries and purchase their fine products, but due to sanitation concerns, they don't give tours (although some of the producers have a window into the area where the cheese is produced). If you do take a trip to pick up some cheese, make a point of visiting a Quebec winery for a complementary bottle of wine.

Once upon a time Canadian wines were suitable for cooking - period!. Now with our wineries bringing back gold medals from France, we can now bring the bottles out of the kitchen with pride. Wineries are springing up all over the country, inspired by the success of our early pioneers in this area. Quebec is certainly coming into its own, particularly in the Eastern Townships and the Monteregie Regions. Take the opportunity to visit one of the wineries, which offer tasting tours and often have wine bars and restaurants, we're sure you'll be impressed. Take note that some of the wineries also have accommodations, ranging from simple B&Bs to rooms in luxurious estates.
