Montreal like most large cities has a full complement of outdoor retailers, most of which are small boutiques, usually run by outdoor enthusiasts. What these shops may lack in breadth of offering (which sometimes is very little), they make up in personalized, service. Most importantly their staff know what their talking about, which in this industry is critical. Ill fitting hiking boots, a poorly designed tent, the wrong choice of carabiner can cause you serious discomfort, or worse could lead to serious injury. Trust becomes essential, and these small shops know that and build their businesses and reputations around that fact. Since the staff of these shops practice what they preach, their is another key benefit in patronizing their stores, they know where the best crags are, that sweet hidden stretch of single track, as well as that play hole that nobody else has found yet, but they'll only tell their good friends ;-) .

  

Don't get us wrong, we aren't knocking the big guys (or online shopping for that matter, we confess, we do it too), it's just that we want to point out that there's more to the picture
than a warehouse of climbing shoes or a 5% discount. Sometimes you'll find us at Atmosphere, sometimes at MEC and sometimes at Base Camp, it depends on what we're looking for and what are needs are.

A great place for a hike or walk, particularly in the Autumn given the wealth of different and unusual trees on the grounds. In the winter you can cross country ski through the forest.
