Salt Spring Island Food
   

Salt Spring Island is often referred to as Canada's organic isle, well known for it's locally produced organic fruits and vegetables. While not all of the island farms are certified organic, most of the island farmers practice organic or natural methods of agriculture. Many of the areas restaurants are now serving locally sourced products and many of the food retailers also have a selection of the islands bounty. The best place to try a sample of what's available is at the Saturday Market in Ganges. Look for vendors with lamb, seasonal produce, artisanal cheese, wild mushrooms and much more. Many of these vendors are also present at the Tuesday market, just behind the Islands Savings in Ganges. If your touring the island keep an eye out for the numerous farm stands that dot the area, where you'll find samples of what's in season during the warmer months. If your planning to locate something specific, leave early, since the stands are often sold out later in the day.

  
 

Salt Spring is also a great source of natural body care products made from the islands locally grown plants and herbs, blended to pamper as well as nurture you. These include soaps, ointments and scents that are available in local shops and at the regions wonderful markets.
