Salt Spring Restaurants
 
   

It should come as no surprise that sea food is one of the main attractions in Salt Spring Island restaurants. After all, the fishing boats are out each morning. Many bring in a catch on a daily basis, which often end up on a diners plate before the night is over. West coast salmon is known the world over for it's wonderful texture and delicate flavour. Salt Spring Island mussels and the local dungenous crab are of particular note, while Salt Spring Lamb is world renown. The island is known as Canada's organic isle so on't hesitate to sample some of the healthier dishes, which are rapidly evolving into sophisticated offerings. Salt Spring is ahead of the curve when it comes to fresh locally raised products, which are are given the chiefs greatest attention. Inquire with your restaurant of choice, most have specialties based on island ingredients.

  
 
 

Salt Spring has a number of cafes which serve organic coffee, some of which is also fair trade and may even be roasted on island. There are now three island vineyards as well as Salt Spring Ale, a local micro-brewery.

What we like!

Truly, it's hard to get a bad meal on this island. This makes it all the harder to just mention a few places but here goes nothing. At the high end there's House Piccalo, Hastings House and Bocado's Bistro. Our patio favorites are the Salt Spring Inn and the Oyster Catcher. For a good casual lunch try Aunti Pesto's or the Tree House Cafe. If you like fish and chips, the Seaside Restaurant in Vesuvius is worth going out of your way for, as are the steaks at the Raven Street Cafe. For fresh local selections drop into Harbour House which has its own organic farm. Finally, take note of the fact that the Rock Salt Restaurant in Fulford is listed in the 2009 edition of the perennial best seller, "Where to Eat in Canada".
