Description: Cape St. Mary's is noted for Gannet Rock, (one of North America's largest Northern Gannet colonies) Visitors can walk to the viewing area, and in early summer watch the action -- the birds nest cheek by jowl on top of the rock just a few metres offshore and at the same elevation as the viewing spot. Lower down there are other birds, kittiwakes, murres, etc. This area is a longer drive from St. John's and visitors need their own transportation, but it is still on the Avalon Peninsula.
