Nature in Vancouver Coast & Mountains

Nature

In the city of Vancouver, Stanley Park is an oasis for nature lovers. The park has with excellent birding and many of the birds are so tame they become shamlessly demanding come lunch time.

Birders will find the University Endowment Lands (Pacific Spirit Regional Park) is also well worth a visit, as are many of the cities beaches particularly during the less crowded hours. The Reifel Bird Sanctuary, located in Delta south of the city, has a wide representation of species, most particulary waterfowl. The sanctuaries sheer number of birds, the variety and the ability to observe close up , might threaten to spoil some birders. Another well known area, the Burns Bog is under severe pressure from several interest groups. This unique habitat shelters many unusual species and the area could certainly use your support to stave off encrouching developers.

A rather controversial conservation area the birding here is exceptional. You might catch a glimps of the threatened Sandhill Crane which gives you an idea of the areas natural value. Other destinations of interest are Light House Park in West Vancouver, Golden Ears Provincial, park just to the east of the city and the Squamish area which is famous for its eagles. There are of course many dozens of other areas which we've failed to mentioned some of which you can dig out in our listings.
